North Atlantic Sectional Circuit

New for the 2004-2005 season is the North Atlantic Sectional Circuit (NASC). In this inaugural season there are six scheduled events with the top four scores counting towards the final standings. Separate awards will be presented at the conclusion of the season in each of the six weapons (Men's and Women's Epee, Foil, and Sabre). The awards will be in the form of a decorative sword.

Points are awarded according to the national points charts for Division I NAC events (column G or H of the linked chart). Points will be awarded to the full field up to and including 32nd place. No points will be awarded for finishes beyond 32nd. The top four results posted by a given fencer will count towards that fencer's final standings. Ties will be broken first based on the top result posted by the fencers in question, next by the second best result, and so on through all six results. If there is still a tie then the two fencers will be deemed to hold the same placement in the final standings. If this results in a tie for first place at the conclusion of the circuit then both fencers will receive a sword.

The planned events for this season include:
October 30/31 - Granite State Open in New Hampshire (Northeast Division)
November 27/28 - Turkey Stab Open in Danbury, CT (Connecticut Division)
March 5/6 - Middlebury Open in Middlebury, VT (Green Mountain Division)
April 30/May 1 - Senior Sectional Championships in Long Island (North Atlantic Section)
May 14 - Hudson-Berkshire Championships (Note: this event is an open) (Hudson-Berkshire Division)
June 25/26 - Pomme de Terre in Waltham, MA (New England Division)

Results:
Current points standings are now available.  Hopefully I’ll find time to make them pretty in the near future.

Other information:
It is anticipated that the sword prizes will be awarded at the final event of the circuit, the Pomme de Terre, in June.
If a competition has only a mixed event then the results will be separated by gender before assigning points.
If a competition has a mixed event and a single-gender event then the single gender event will be used for assigning points for that gender and the mixed event, with fencers from the single-gender event's gender removed, will be used for assigning points for the other gender.
The circuit is anticipated to grow in the coming years to span all of the Section. Until then please show support by coming out and fencing in the events that are already members.
The goal of the circuit is to further foster inter-divisional fencing, especially at the higher levels, in an effort to increase the overall level of competitiveness throughout the region.
